Falling For Fashion

By: Destiny Calderon Lucero

Asu Fall Fashion Trends

As summer turns to fall, we swap bikinis for beanies. Welcome to what's arguably everyone's favorite season. Why? It could be the cozy vibes, the rich, warm colors, or the flood of golden hour pumpkin patch photos. But what truly makes Fall iconic? The outfits we decide to wear. The transition from Arizona heat to breezy evenings means it's time to update our wardrobes. So, what are the "ins" and "outs" of ASU fall Fashion this year?

The “Outs” of Fall Fashion

Let's start with the outs and save the best for last. Coming in first on the "no-longer-trendy" list are ultra-ripped jeans. While they've been a staple for years, the look is shifting toward cleaner, longer-lasting denim styles. Next up are overly casual athletic sweats. Think full-sweat suits worn as daywear. Comfort is still key, but people are opting for more styled pieces that balance casual and chic. Chunky platform sneakers are also on their way out, replaced by simpler silhouettes and vintage-inspired footwear. And while bright neons had their fun during summer. They can feel out of place among softer, richer tones of Fall. Lastly, flashy logos are no longer the flex they once were. Students are choosing subtle, timeless designs that feel more authentic and personal.

What's “In” for Fall 2025

Now that the outs are out of the way, let's talk about what's in. The top trends for fall 2025 are all about effortless layers and wearable comfort. Cardigans and fitted sweaters are making a big comeback, as they always do. They're cozy, versatile, and perfect for those cooler morning walks to class. Dark denim is another major staple this season, offering a timeless and flattering silhouette for every body type. The preppy "academia" look is thriving with blazers, plaid skirts, and rugby shirts, channeling that classic college vibe (letting you romp through life, why not). For outerwear, cropped cool coats and light jackets are perfect transitional pieces that fit Arizona's unpredictable temperatures. And finally, to complete the look, we have layered accessories, such as statement belts, minimalist jewelry stacks, and cozy scarves, which are the perfect finishing touch to any fall look.

Style Meets Comfort At ASU

At ASU, Fashion isn't just about following what's popular; it's about striking a balance between comfort, individuality, and practicality. When you're walking across the Tempe campus in 90-degree weather in October, you learn quickly how to make fall fashion work in your favor. These trends matter because they adapt to Arizona's unique climate while still conveying a seasonal vibe. You might not need a heavy coat, but a light blazer or cardigan can instantly make an outfit feel more "fall". Fashion on campus also helps build confidence. When students head to class or hang out at the MU, what they wear often reflects how they feel. Wearing an outfit that feels "put together" can lift your mood and make you feel ready for the day. This is especially true during the busy fall semester, when midterms and projects pile up; sometimes, a great outfit can really make a difference.

How to Style ASU Fall Trends

Styling these fall trends doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. Start simple. Try pairing a cropped cardigan with high-waisted jeans and white sneakers for a cozy yet clean everyday outfit. Want something that transitions from class to a night out? Swap sneakers for ankle boots and add gold jewelry or a structured bag. For those leaning into the academia aesthetic, layer a collared shirt under a light sweater or blazer. Add a dark denim skirt or a plaid trousers, and you've got a look that says "I just left the library, but I could also be heading to brunch". Accessories are where you can really personalize your outfit. Thin-layered necklace, chunky rings, or a simple scarf can transform something basic into something that feels entirely your own. The goal isn't perfection, it's personality. Fashion should feel effortless, not forced.

More than a Trend

At the end of the day, fashion at ASU is more than what's trending on TikTok or Instagram. It's about feeling confident, comfortable, and creative in what you wear. Fall gives everyone a chance to reinvent their style, even in small ways. Whether that's dressing up for class, grabbing coffee with friends, or heading out to a football game, your outfit tells a story about who you are.

Eden Sapien

Winner for Halloween Contest

We're excited to kick off this month by congratulating Eden Sapien, our Halloween Costume Contest Winner! “Her look combined creativity and confidence, showing how fashion can be expressive, bold, and empowering., She stood out with a bold, darkly glamorous corset design that perfectly balanced fantasy and fashion flair. This costume didn't just embrace the spirit of Halloween; it showcased personal style and originality, proving that fashion can be both expressive and empowering.

Let's take a closer look at her costume in detail. Starting with her corset, Eden chose a striking teal-blue piece adorned with black feather embellishment, creating a dramatic contrast that instantly drew attention. The structure of the corset accentuated her silhouette while the feathered detailing added a touch of mystery and elegance, reminiscent of a dark, enchanted character straight out of a fairytale.

She paired the corset with a black mini skirt, keeping the look sleek and balanced. The skirt's simplicity allowed the upper half of her costume to shine, while still maintaining a cohesive, bold aesthetic. To tie it all together, Eden wore ankle-length leggings that subtly added texture and coverage, enhancing the outfit's layered look. Finishing off the ensemble, her black boots provided the perfect blend of edge and sophistication, complementing the dramatic tone of her outfit while remaining functional and fashion-forward.

What truly made Eden's costume stand out was the confidence she carried it with. From her expressive makeup to her commanding presence, every element worked together to tell a story of creativity and empowerment. Her look reminded us that Halloween isn't just about dressing up; it's about using fashion as a form of self-expression.

Eden’s costume was more than a momentary showstopper; it was a celebration of individuality, artistry, and confidence. Congratulations once again to our 2025 Halloween Costume Contest winner, Eden Sapien!
